THE CONSEQUENCES OF ANGER: Day 4

Anger & Your Perspective Angry people often put up a shield against those who have hurt or upset them. They may even go out of their way to avoid them entirely. Still others are reluctant to accept invitations or receive affection from people who have made them angry. Do any of these actions describe how you deal with people you are angry with? Even if you don’t think you’re hurting yourself by doing one or more of the things listed above, you are. If you shield yourself from one person, it’s likely you will shield yourself from everyone. Those who harbor intense anger toward another person who has hurt or rejected them often make strong statements such as: “I will never trust anyone again in that area of my life” or “I’m going to protect myself and not get close to another person as long as I live.” Anger has an isolating effect and will interfere with your ability to form close, lasting, and intimate relationships. Few people enjoy associating with angry people. The vast m

THE CONSEQUENCES OF ANGER: Day 3

Anger & Your Sleep Angry people are generally incapable of experiencing deep inner peace. Even if their anger is aimed at just one person or situation, it will spill into other areas. It can’t be compartmentalized. Anger will taint every aspect of one’s life.  This is clearly evident when it comes to getting proper rest. Your body rejuvenates itself during sleep—old cells are replaced by new ones, hormone levels are rebalanced, and tissues are cleansed of toxins. The mind is also renewed. Sleep has benefits too numerous to mention here. But anger can disrupt sleep patterns and can keep people from getting the full night’s rest they need. Is someone keeping you awake at night because of his or her insulting remarks or critical comments? Are you facing a situation that has you so frustrated you can’t seem to let it go? Do you find yourself tossing and turning over what someone did or said? The deception is that when you finally fall asleep, you may think your anger has been

THE CONSEQUENCES OF ANGER: Day 2

Anger & Your Attitudes & Behaviors You can’t hide anger. It doesn’t take long for a sensitive, astute person to recognize it in another. There’s something in the flashing of the eyes, the clenching of the jaw, the edgy tone in the voice. As much as a person attempts to hide it, anger  will  reveal itself. At times, the words an angry person speaks—even if dripping with kindness—give the person away. Those who study human behavior have noted a number of characteristics in angry people: Tardiness  — They tend to be tardy in an attempt to control a situation or draw attention to themselves in order to express anger. Obstructive Behavior in Groups  — They fail to cooperate to the point they are truly disagreeable. These people object to every idea, proposition, and solution suggested with an air of disdain.  Cynicism  — They find fault in every person or situation. Jabbing Jokes  — They tell embarrassing stories with the intent of hurting the subject of the joke. Disrupt

THE CONSEQUENCES OF ANGER: Day 1

Thank you for subscribing to our series on Anger. Each reading plan has been designed to stand alone or be explored as part of this series. To make it easier for our subscribers, we've included links to the other plans in this series at the end of Day 7's devotion. Anger affects our lives physically, psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. It also influences our performance in completing tasks or fulfilling our work responsibilities. Anger is never entirely self-contained. It always has consequences that touch those around us. More important, anger has an impact on God.    Anger & Your Health  More and more, scientific and medical researchers are finding that a significant number of serious diseases—including some of the most deadly—are chronic in nature, related to our lifestyle choices, and linked to the way we think or process our emotions. Anger certainly is one of the negative emotions that has been linked to a wide variety of ailments. God didn’t c

DON'T LOOK BACK: verse 4

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13‭-‬14 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/php.3.13-14.NIV

DON'T LOOK BACK: verse 2 - 3

The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the Lord fills the whole earth, not one of those who saw my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times— not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it. Numbers 14:20‭-‬23 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/num.14.20-23.NIV For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. DON'T LOOK BACK: verse 1

So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath. They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) When they reached the Valley of Eshkol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. That place was called the Valley of Eshkol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there. At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.  They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful,

Looking Back Limits The Future It is heartbreaking to see so many people live their lives camping out in the past that cannot be changed and turning their backs on a grand future. We all know it is impossible to be effective in two places simultaneously and the only person who could accomplish that is God. We can never give one hundred percent of ourselves in the present if we keep dwelling on the past. Our potential will never reach its maximum capacity; future goals get delayed, insecurity and fear will dominate, the flesh will rule and life will become one heap of complaining. There is a lot at stake to remain, and truthfully your life will be unhappy. The children of Israel found themselves in extreme bondage, they cried to God to deliver them, and God sent a deliverer. They experienced firsthand the goodness, kindness, protection, and provision of God. He split the Red Sea, he destroyed their enemies, he made bitter water sweet, he rained manna from heaven and fed them, their

We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. Looking Back Feeds The Desires Of The Flesh - A Longing For Supplies As we go further into the story of the children of Israel in the wilderness, we can see how much their heart was rooted in the bondage of Egypt. It is incredible how much food plays a huge part in any culture. In New York, one highlight of the city is the many restaurants and the diversity of culinary cuisines. Food can comfort us on a cold night, it is the highlight of every party and what has always puzzled me is going to the theater to see your favorite movie yet that experience is never complete without something to munch on. I guess what I'm trying to say is that food seems to infiltrate most aspects of our lives and Jesus was acutely aware of the tendency to lean on food as a substitute for God. In one of the recorded temptations of Jesus in his wilderness experience, the devil challenged him to turn the stone into bread, and Jesus response was, "It is written: man shall not live by bread alone but b

DON'T LOOK BACK: Day 3

Looking Back Feeds The Desires Of The Flesh Providing A False Sense Of Security When we look back and constantly dwell on the past, it seems to offer us a sense of safety even if the situation we were in was a dangerous one physically, emotionally or mentally. This is because as humans, change and newness always bring with it a sense of challenge, stretching and the unknown. But in the past we find comfort because we know all that we were dealing with, it was familiar even though it was difficult. Sounds strange, I know but I have seen time and time again in ministry where people will go back to abusive homes, manipulative relationships and immoral lifestyles just because it's familiar and provides a false sense of security.  I grew up in an abusive home, and it seemed easier to deal with the abuse than to open up to someone in authority for help; again it was the unknown of the future that kept me bound to that situation. Today I am writing about moving from the past and look

With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished.”  When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them. As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!”  But Lot said to them, “No, my Lords, please! Your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have shown great kindness to me in sparing my life. But I can’t flee to the mountains; this disaster will overtake me, and I’ll die. Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it—it is very small, isn’t it? Then my life will be spared.”  He said to him, “Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of. But flee

Looking Back Is A Heart Condition The scriptures teach us that as a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7 NIV). If we examined this closer, we could see that most of what we act out in life find its origins in our thoughts. Day after day whatever we ponder on, meditate on and dwell on becomes a reality sooner or later. Our thoughts are powerful and will eventually determine the future we will experience. Have you ever heard the saying "Follow your heart?" Well, there is so much truth wrapped up in that saying, and even the Bible talks about our heart following our treasure (Luke 12:34).  Our heart was made to follow the ultimate treasure which is God himself, but only Jesus could give us the heart to understand that, and without this understanding, we will chase riches of this world of lesser value. Looking back and living in the past constantly is a clear indication you believe your treasures are still buried there. A woman in the Bible only went by the ti

It's been a long time since....

I know it's been a long time since I've been on here. I couldn't figure out how to post from my phone an I thought I always had to do it from my laptop.  Wrong! I figured it out. Now I can post every day.  So people can read the devotionals that I've been reading.  Cause I can't post them on Twitter there to long. Have a Blessed day everyone.

Don't Look Back: verse 1

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:1‭-‬5 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/eph.2.1-5.NIV

Don't Look Back: Day 1

A New Start Doesn't a new start sound great? When life becomes difficult, you have failed several times, you have messed up a perfect relationship, and you are bored of your job, your house, your friends, and family; a new start sounds exciting when we find ourselves stuck in the mediocrities of life. Do you know what Jesus did on the cross over two thousand years ago enables you to have a new start even now? Though many believers know this truth, they still live beneath this truth every day because somehow the lie of the old life seems to envelop their souls. The fact is the enemy of our souls knows if he can keep us looking back we would make little progress in the future God has for us.  We all have a past, and for some, it may be memorable, for others it may be horrible. Whatever the past looks like the enemy majors in causing us to indulge in what was. We serve a God that loves to plan ahead for his children, and scripture tells us that his plans are always good in the en
